$25 to $800

Oddball Flea Market is once a month in Absecon Nj on New Jersey Ave across from Jo and John’s Pizza. I was checking out all the tables and I came across this star.I asked the person selling it what it was. They said there was a charity auction where they got a bunch of celebrities to draw/paint on a blank star. Then they would auction them off to the highest bidder.

It was so weird I had to buy it. They sold it to me for $25.

You can see the star is in the catalog and in this picture. It was painted by the original cast of Chicago. I had more pictures of the magazine but I lost them when I got a new phone. Tom Hanks did one Drew Barrymore and even Donald Trump. Well at work, every Christmas we work with a company called “Faces Of Autism”. There is a list of 30 tree themes to choose from and one happened to be Broadway. I jumped at the chance to turn the oddity into a commodity. My boss Henry and I took on the task together. They give you a $300 limit to spend on the tree that they will reimburse. Long story short we ended up paying $600 and each of us losing $150. We bought a broadway.com gift card for $300 and another $300 on decorations and the stanchions. My friend Joel works at a bar called Iggys in NYC and got us a gift card for his bar for drinks before or after the show. Plus, with the star the price of the tree was over $900

We tried to mesh broadway shows, cabaret, phantom of the opera and Chicago. We were front runners until the end, when we came in fourth place auctioning our tree for $800. It was our first and last attempt doing a tree. To be honest I wish I saved it because it was such a weird and bizarre find. Now someone else has this rare artifact. Congrats to the winner and the charity Faces Of Autism.
